Reflect & Research

 Earlier in the project I made a piece of work where I cut up one of the collages and then hung the pieces from the ceiling, this meant that the landscape only lined up wen you viewed it from a certain angle. This time I did it again but I printed the sections of the collage on A3 paper. First thing I realised was that this was harder to construct than the smaller collage. Another reason I did this was to also get better photos. With my last documentation of this the background was a bit strange, it was the view into the corridor from my room, although this fit with the idea of bringing where I wish I was into my everyday life, I thought I could still show this in a better way. I am really happy with how this turned out, I really like the fact that you can only properly make sense of the image when you look at it from a certain place.  'Landscape may be shaped by human involvement, but the human is itself shaped by landscape, and neither has the upper hand in this relationship - each is appropriated by and to the other' - Malpas I came across this quote when reading the article by Anneke de Klerk and I felt as though it was very relevant to my work. I am here shaping my own landscapes creating them how I see fit however this does not make me any greater than the landscape as it in itself has allowed me to create this work. My work would not exist without the landscape and my landscape images would not exist without me. I feel like although I have been changing landscapes I am very aware of the respect I have for the natural world and am conscious of the effects humans are having on nature - both positive and negative. This is something I spoke about in my CP3 essay. This quote feels to pull both my practice and my research together to make them tie in nicely.

 

 

 Azabs work is a mixture of collage, sculpture and photography. His collage work is full of bright colours and different textures, using a mix of found and his own images, exploring ideas of memory. I think these collages look really interesting and I like how you can keep looking at them and not get bored, every time you look you seem to notice something that you didn't before. I like how tactile they look. One of the series I really liked was Out of Touch. The come across as slight optical illusions. When Azab spoke to us in the lecture he gave I remember him talking about the work. He said he had the original image printed and then placed his hand in the photo so that it made sense and then took the photo.  Originally for this project I wanted to explore digital modelling, however I had a few complications with this as my laptop could not run the software, then I was waiting for my new laptop to be delivered. There was delays with this oder and it meant that by the time I finally got the laptop there wasn't long of this project left. I have downloaded the fusion software and started to have a look. However because I do not have much time until hand in I am going to focus on other aspects of the project and save this idea for FMP. If I do get time I will start looking at video tutorials for how to use fusion but I would rather focus on the other ideas I have been working on.

 Thibault Brunet is an artist who explores photography through cyberspace. Brunets work is very digital and constructed. His images are usually screenshots of games and items constructed in the digital space. He has also done series exploring France through Google Maps and sometimes would take parts of the images and remove them from their original place to decontextualise them. Brunets work feels similar to mine as we are both working with places that exist digitally. However where I am then taking these digital places into the physical world he keeps them digital. His work is very much based on landscape but not always a whole landscape, sometimes he only focuses on individual buildings however the way he presents them seems to place them in their own landscape. Taking individual buildings out of their context and placing them in their own landscape gives them a completely different feel.
