Exhibit In the City Review
For exhibit in the city my group focused on the title go 'Hinterland' in response to the idea of what photography is. My original ideas were quite conceptual however with the course moving online my ideas for the project changed.
I started off by making photos similar to David Hockneys photo joiners as I was able to capture the sam place on different days, this meant I could create a collage of a place with different tones.
I then started exploring the idea of making my own place out of places I have visited. I started creating landscape photos using photos I had taken on previous holidays. Some were quite abstract others were very realistic. I liked this idea of making a utopia, somewhere thats perfect to me, a place other people think is real but isn't. Its a photo were people may recognise parts but be a bit confused because its not a place they remember. All the sections are at different perspectives so sometimes they don't make sense. I was making my own hinterland.
The artists I looked at in this project were:
Luke Saxon
Uta Barth
Abigail Reynolds
Mario Wagner
Karen Lynch
Sonja Braas
Julie Monaco
David Hockney
I really enjoyed this project and I think I want to develop these ideas further. I want to try add some more 3D elements to my work. Potentially turn these flat images into sculptures that look different from different perspectives. I started to look into this at the end of this project however I am excited to see what I can do.
