Sarah Eyre

Image
Sarah Eyre is a photographer who mainly focuses on gender, identity and the female body. A lot of her work is based around wigs. I really like the photos that she has taken on this topic and then the written piece that goes along side it makes it even more interesting. At first glance her photos seem slightly abstract, you can't tell exactly what they are straight away. They look like interesting sculptures that have been created and then photographed. She photographed wigs and then collages them to make sculpture like images Eyre also created a series called 'Lady Lane' which again runs with the theme of wigs but this time there is more collage involved and also animation. I really like collages because I think that you can create really interesting outcomes, it gives photos more of a flat look, taking the depth out of them. I really like this series, I like that the collages have a mix of black and white and colour images and they're quite abstract, they don't rea...

Gayle Chong Kwan

Image
Gayle Chong Kwan is an artists who's work is very large scale and based around photography and installation. She wants her work to be a sensory experience having the audience fully immersed in what surrounds them, affecting their emotions with them reacting to colours sounds and smells. She is said to create landscapes and environments. I am massively inspired by Gayle Chong Kwans work I think it is incredible. The way her installations are set up to take over an area and the audiences emotions. I like the way her work is also made up of waste material, she creates something beautiful out of something not that beautiful. I think the way that people are fully surrounded by her work is great, I would love to be bale to take over everyones senses and create a totally new experience for them. I think the curation of a project is one of the main part and if I were to create a show to exhibit my work Chong Kwan would be the first person I would look to for inspiration. The ideas she expl...

Creating Structures

Image
Towards the end of the exhibit in the city unit I was really enjoying the work I was making and I knew I wanted to carry it on and develop it. I started to test out some ideas of how I could turn my photos into structures and make my flat images 3D. I tried cutting my photos out into sections and having each part come out at different depths. It was a very basic few attempts but it has given me some ideas of how to move forwards. My first few attempts were very basic and I know this is an area I want to and need to keep on exploring. I need to brainstorm other ways in which I can create models of my work.

Noemie Goudal

Goudal is another artist who uses sculpture within her work. She also makes a show of her work creating big installations to show off what she has created. Most of her prints are show large scale or life size to really help the viewer understand what they are looking at. I like the fact that in her work the colours can be quite muted and stick to one aesthetic. She creates interesting images, some of which remind me slightly of Hockneys photo joiners, an abstract representation of a scene. I think the way her work is presented is really interesting too you feel immersed in the work. I want my work to be like that, I want it to be an experience, rather than just looking at photos I want people to feel involved and surrounded by whats going on.

Thomas Demand

Image
Thomas Demands work is a mix of photography and sculpture. Usually Demand creates sculptures out of paper and then photographs them, after they have been photographed he destroys the sculpture. His work is said to be illusionistic, he tends to recreate places that have political and/or historical backgrounds. Sometimes they're hotel rooms other times their kitchens. The detail in his work is very intricate and sometimes it is hard to tell that these photos are scenes made out of paper. I think Thomas Demands work is amazing, the fact that he is able to create these scenes on such a small scale with paper is fascinating. I have always thought about turning my photos into sculptures never my photos being of sculptures that I have made. I think I should try this technique out in terms of building my landscape and then photographing it. I really like the way that Demands work look real, they look like still life photos and the fact that they're made out of paper is really interesti...

Artists

Image
I have made a list of artists/art historians that were recommend for me to look at, some of them were also mentioned in articles. I have had a quick look at all of their work and decided which ones I think would be relevant to what I would like to look into others I have decided I don't think they would be very influential however I have kept a note of their names in case I change my mind.
